Week 35 / Round 35 :: Barclays Premier League 2010/2011
Liverpool FC vs. Newcastle United preview:
The final seven games will determine everything. We are playing for our lives here. We’re in a dogfight.
“There is no point pondering the past. We’ve got 34 points. We know what it takes to stay up. The quicker we get there the better.
“This is about our stake, our lives, our club, the fans and I think the commitment will be even greater from now until the end of the season.
“These seven games are very important but what gives me encouragement is the fighting spirit and battling qualities we showed in the second half against Everton.
“We were one-down but we came back and fought extremely hard to be in a leading position.”
“Our destiny is in our own hands.
“We have a league of seven games – four at home and three away. We don’t want to be in a position to blame others or blame decisions.
“We just want to go ahead and be strong enough to do the job. We are not looking for excuses. We just want results.”
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew
“We go to Villa where we know there will be some feeling.”
“We beat them 6-0, so they will be highly motivated, and as the players and fans here have reminded me we won’t forget two years ago either.
“So I don’t think there will be a problem with motivation for us. But what is important for me is the strategy, that our gameplan is carried through and that we concentrate. If we do that we have a great chance of winning.
“We know it is an important game for our fans because of what happened two years ago. We want to walk off that pitch and applaud our fans with a smile on our face. The only way we are going to do that is to win the game.”
